The Professional Construction Seniority (APE) is an award that is paid to construction workers for their length of service in the industry.
It is disbursed annually on the occasion of May 1st.
The APE premium accrues with 2.100 hours reported in the two-year period preceding the settlement year. The A.P.E. year runs from October to September: the settlement of May 1st, 2025 included the period from October 2022 to September 2024.
Hours worked, hours lost due to illness, injury, and occupational disease are added together for the entitlement.
Periods of military service (88 hours for each full month), marriage leave (104 hours), mandatory maternity and parental leave under Article 32 of Legislative Decree No. 151/2001 (pursuant to Law No. 1204, articles 1, paragraph 4, and 7, paragraphs 1, 2 and 3, which provides the right of each parent to abstain from work for each child in his or her eight years of life for a period not exceeding ten months), family care leave art. 33 Law 104/92 and periodic medical examinations (art. 15, 18, 41 TU Security) are useful for reaching 2,100 hours.
NB: for the recognition of these notional periods, it is necessary to submit the relevant documentation to Cassa Edile (we recommend inquiring at the offices about the documentation to be sent). It is not enough for the employer’s reporting of the notional hours on the provision report to be considered valid.
The amount to be settled is calculated by multiplying the WORKED HOURS of the 2nd year (i.e., October 2022 – September 2023) by the hourly rate set contractually at the national level, and which depends on:

In the case of death or absolute permanent disability at work of workers who have received the benefit at least once or otherwise have accrued the requirement for A.P.E. settlement and for whom in the two-year period preceding the event the provisions provided for in Article 19 of the C.C.N.L. have been made at Cassa Edile, a benefit equal to 300 times the minimum contractual hourly wage due to the worker himself at the time of the event is disbursed by Cassa Edile at the request of the worker or his successors.

If the certificate issued by the Forensic Medicine Operative Unit of the Provincial Health Services Agency (Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari) provides for a subsequent revision, it will be necessary to wait for the final certificate indicating the total and permanent disability.
